10 common questions about gacha pity and probability.

Q1. On average, how many pulls for a 5★ in Genshin?

Including soft pity (+6%/pull from pull 74), the true expected value is ~62 pulls. With the 50/50 system, expected pulls for a featured character is ~93. The "1 in 167" figure from the 0.6% base rate alone is wrong.

Q2. What is the 50/50 system?

On HoYoverse featured banners, a 5★ drop is 50% the featured character and 50% a standard character. Losing it guarantees the next 5★ is featured. Worst case: two consecutive pities = 180 pulls.

Q3. Soft pity vs hard pity?

Hard pity is a guaranteed drop at pull N. Soft pity is a rapidly rising per-pull rate before the hard cap. Genshin: soft from pull 74, hard at 90. Most 5★s actually land at 85–89.

Q4. Is Monte Carlo simulation accurate?

At 10k iterations, mean and median converge within ±2%. Extreme tails (P99) are noisier. If you need reproducibility, a seeded version is available on request.

Q5. What is "carried-over pity"?

Pulls you made on the previous banner without landing a 5★ carry forward. Example: 50 pulls last banner with nothing = this banner starts at 50. Critical for planning eidolon/constellation budgets.

Q6. Are Zenless and Wuthering Waves the same as Genshin?

Star Rail and Zenless match Genshin exactly (0.6%, 74/90, 50/50). Wuthering Waves is cheaper (0.8%, 66/80). Weapons and W-Engines vary per game — check the preset in the calculator.

Q7. What is the Blue Archive 200-pull exchange?

If you do not land the featured 3★ in 200 pulls, a selector ticket is granted. Worst case is capped at 24,000 Pyroxene = 200 pulls. This calculator accounts for both the expectation and the guaranteed ceiling.

Q8. How much for constellations / eidolons?

Genshin C6 (7 copies) simulates to ~720 pulls median and ~1,000 P90 — roughly 1.5 years of F2P primogems + Welkin. Eidolon runs have huge variance because you must win 50/50 repeatedly.

Q9. When should I pull vs skip?

P90 budget or better → pull. P50–P70 → only meta-defining characters. Pure preference → wait until 1.5× budget. See section 6 of the Guide.

Q10. Is this tool affiliated with any studio?

No. This is a non-commercial fan tool unrelated to any publisher. Rates are sourced from each game's official disclosure page (linked inline). Official pages always take precedence if rates change.
